Each issue we profile somebody from Sheffield Mencap and Gateway, to find out more about what makes it such a varied and special place. This summer we get to know Donna, our new Service Manager for Children’s, Carers and Health.

How long have you been at Sheffield Mencap and Gateway and which roles have you held?

I’m new to Sheffield Mencap and Gateway, starting at the end of May 2025. I am the Service Manager for Children’s, Carer’s and Health projects.

What have you gained through working at SMG?

I have gained a lovely new team of hard-working staff and a fabulous peer group in our service manager team. Plus all the members have been so welcoming and always come with a great story and a smile to start my day! This has been such a positive change for me, as I was previous working remotely from home.

What are your goals for the next year at SMG?

To help grow and develop the children’s, carers and health services so that we can help and support as many people as we can!

You haven’t been here long, but can you tell us your favourite moment so far from SMG?

So far, it’s being a part of our Saturday stars sessions. It’s been great to see our supportive staff encourage and develop our young members’ confidence, social skills, creative and sporting skills. I look forward to seeing more of these empowering and positive activities.

How do you balance work and life – what do you do to relax?

I love to hike/walk in the great outdoors with my springer spaniel Penny. I also love camping, paddleboarding, listening to podcasts and listening to country music.

Finally, tell us a fact about yourself that people at SMG don’t know

I can spin Poi (circus skill) and can spin fire Poi!
