Our annual Christmas Fair not only brought the community together for a day of festive fun, it also raised over £5,000 for Sheffield Mencap and Gateway.

It started to feel a lot like Christmas at Sheffield Mencap and Gateway as our annual festive fair returned. This year was busier than ever, with a real community feel as many families from the local area came to join the fun.

Attractions included a craft fair filled with unique items handmade by our members – wreaths, baubles, cards and gifts galore. There were games, activities, prizes, stalls, and plenty to keep the kids entertained with crafts and a bouncy castle. Visitors enjoyed hot drinks and food including traditional roast pork sandwiches, followed by an an array of tempting cakes and treats.

A highlight of the day was the unique Santa’s Grotto, designed and made by our members. Groups had been exploring what life was really like in The Norh Pole, and used this learning to create an authentic North-Pole experience for Santa.

That meant no penguins or Christmas trees, but lots of sea creatures including manatees and beluga, with a backdrop of twinkling stars and northern lights.

Over £5,000 funds were raised at the fair, every penny of which will go towards supporting our evening and weekend projects to continue running in 2024.

Thank you on behalf of everybody at Sheffield Mencap and Gateway to everybody who donated to the fair or came along the day – you have made our Christmas a very happy one!
