Overview

Sheffield Mencap is the leading provider of training and support services for people with learning disabilities in the city and works in partnership with many organisations within Sheffield and beyond.

Sheffield City Council provides most of our core funding for our Day Services and through the Carers Fund, for the Sharing Caring Project. Our life skills courses, Progression to Independence and Directions are run in conjunction with Rotherham College of Arts & Technology.

Sheffield Mencap is a local charity and although we are affiliated to Mencap, the national charity, we receive no funding from them. We try to keep subscriptions and fees to a minimal level, so that no-one is excluded from our activities due to financial hardship.

In order to maintain and improve the service we offer, we increasingly have to look for charitable funding to supplement the funding we receive via contracts with statutory bodies. Our Annual Accounts, which can be easily accessed via the Charity Commission website, show that we don't have large reserves, but instead invest our income in providing grassroots services.
