Overview
Sheffield Mencap and Gateway's mission is to initiate, develop, provide and support activities and services which improve the quality of life for people with learning disabilities and their families.
That's the official line. But what that actually means is that here at Norfolk Lodge we help people to make the most of their lives: to get a little more independence, to find friendship or a partner and to find a job, or fulfilling daytime activity. In other words, our members have the same goals and hopes as everyone else - but facing greater barriers to overcome on the way.
Our mission shows a commitment to people with a learning disability and their families through:
- Identifying and working against all forms of inequality
- Building up confidence and skills
- Working towards ensuring full and meaningful lives
Sheffield Mencap and Gateway's services are available to anyone in Sheffield with a learning disability and to their families. It is for women, men, young and old, wealthy or poor, people of any religious faith or of none.
